Crawford Photography found its beginning in 1977 in the home of Jim and Wanda Crawford with two year old daughter, Lisa. While looking into purchasing equipment in Roanoke VA the Crawford’s met, their now life-long friends, Kent and Lorraine Saunders who introduced them to the Virginia Professional Photographers Association (VPPA). Jim received most of his training through this Association, where he acquired his Fellow of Photography degree and became a Certified Professional Photographer.
In 1983 the Crawford’s took a leap of faith, quit their full time jobs and purchased a building on Main Street in Covington that would become and still is the home of Crawford Photography today. In its early stages the buidling housed not only a portrait studio but a full color lab and black & white darkroom in order to offer film processing for the community as well as serve the photography needs of the local paper mill, Westvaco.
In 1997 their daughter, Lisa, graduated from Roanoke College and returned to work in the family business. Lisa received most of her training from her father as she grew up in the business, as well as from several different classes through the VPPA. She has trained with award winning Masters of Photography at the State and National Organization Level. She acquired her Associate Fellow of Photography degree from the VPPA in 2007 and has followed in her father's foot steps, winning many print awards over the years. Lisa is married with two sons and loves that she is able to carry on the family business in her community.
